WASHINGTON, April 30, 2026 — The Commodity Futures Trading Commission said Thursday it is seeking public comment on potential changes to its Commitments of Traders reporting program, including more frequent publication and revisions to report content, according to a request for comment.

Review of reporting structure

The Commission said the review will examine the current structure of its Commitments of Traders (COT) reports in light of changes in market structure and evolving user needs. The request outlines the history and purpose of the reporting framework and poses specific questions on potential modifications to the program.

“Public comment will give the agency vital perspective as we evaluate potential modifications to its COT Reports program,” Chairman Michael S. Selig said.

Consultation process and timeline

The request follows outreach and communication with agricultural participants and commercial end users, the Commission said. Comments must be submitted within 30 days of publication in the Federal Register.

Prior review and historical context

The CFTC previously conducted a review of the COT reporting framework in 2006 and is reopening the process after a significant passage of time since the prior assessment. The reports are designed to provide aggregated data on trader positions and to reflect evolving market conditions over time, according to a Commission report.
